SITEMAP

Welcome fans of the pride of South Bend. I am a long-time Studebaker fan and Studebaker Drivers Club member, having owned a 1957 Silver Hawk in high school and a 1959 Lark Regal Hardtop in college. Since then, I have owned other Studes as hobby cars including a 1962 Champ Pickup, a 1964 Canadian Commander Special Sedan, a 1962 GT Hawk, a 1960 Lark Regal 4-door, a 1957 Silver Hawk (not the same one I owned in high school -- that one I wrecked) and a 1949 Champion Starlight Coupe. My current Studes are a 1964 Challenger Wagonaire with sliding roof, a 1964 Daytona Sedan, and a 1963 GT Hawk. I will build this page as time allows. If you have any suggestions or comments, please send me a message. If you expeience a problem with the e-mail link, the address is wj2d44@gmail.com. Both text and image contributions are welcome.

Before Restoration

This neat Custom 1963 Lark Daytona Wagonaire is owned by Bob Carlberg of Rialto, California. Bob began the restoration of his Wagonaire in back in 2010 and did most of the work himself. The current engine is a Chevrolet 350 V8 with a TH350 three-speed automatic transmission and a modified 1957 Chevy Bel Air drive shaft. Bob's Wagonaire sits on 17" Cobra alloy wheels. The front bumper has been removed and the front panel openings have been filled and smoothed. It has custom two-tone piant and front bucket seats from a Datsun 280Z. The mnatching hood stripe was added several years after the car was painted.

Bob's Wagonaire is often seen at cruise-ins, car shows, meets, and parades. His Wagonaire has received a National Muscle Car Association (NMCA) West Coast National Champion Award. In 2017 his Wagonaire was invited to participate the Prestone 90th Anniversay Party and the Los Angeles Auto Show. His Wagonaire was the only Studebaker on the grounds at the 2022 Hot Wheels Legends Tour in El Sugundo. At Christmas he decorates the Wagonaire with lights and a Christmas tree to participate in holiday parades. Bob's dog Rambler who accompanies him to these events is visible in several of the pictures.

The Wagonaire was introduced for the 1963 model year in Regal and Daytona trim levels. Initially it was only offered with the unique sliding roof. A fixed roof option along with a lower trim Standard model were added mid-year. The fixed roof was available in all three trim levels and was priced $100 less than the sliding roof model. The Wagonaire was designed by famed Milwaukee designer Brooks Stevens who was also responsible for the Jeep Wagoneer which likewise was introduced in 1963.

Thanks to Bob Carlberg for providing the information on his Lark Daytona Wagonaire.

If you own or once owned a Studebaker or related vehicle and would like to see your car as "Stude of the Month" or in the "Cool Studes" section, or if you have other pictures or material that you would like to contribute to this page, please e-mail me here at wj2d44@gmail.com. I can accept either electronic or hard copy images. The Main Page is issued every other month so the next edition will be June 2023.

All of the previous editions of the Main Page going back to October 1995 have been reposted. In the process of reposting the pages, I have made corrections and revisions as needed, and in some cases added material that was not used when a page was first posted due to download speed and file storage limitations. A complete list of Main Pages and Studes of the Month with links to each is located here.

Interior and Dash

This cool Custom 1955 Studebaker Champion Five-Passenger Coupe is owned by Paul Stevenson of Nipomo, California. Exterior modifications include a custom front grille, painted headlight bezels, pillar mounted exterior rear view mirrors, and painted tail light bezels. The interior features recovered stock seats, a wood tilt steering wheel, and a custom engine turned dash with round analog instruments and a modern in-dash stereo receiver. The car rides on alloy wheels and modern blackwall radial tires and is painted metallic brown with black painted trim around the windows. Studebaker dropped the Starlight and Starliner names in 1955 in favor of referring to the pillared version as a five-passeneger coupe and the pillarless version as a five passenger hardtop.

Paul Stevenson also built this sharp 1954 Conestoga Station Wagon that was Stude of the Month in February 2013 and this custom 1950 Studebaker Convertible that was Stude of the Month in February 2019.

The pictures were taken by Bill Junge at the October 2022 Run to the Sun car show in Lake Havasu, Arizona. Thanks to Bill for sending the pictures of Paul Stevenson's latest build.

Wood Trimmed 1963 Wagonaire

Jim Fowler of Calabash, North Carolina has updated his 1963 Daytona Wagonaire with wood trim as was used on a 1966 Wagonare show car. Jim used vinyl wrap to achieve the desired look. Here is a picture of designer Brooks Stevens with the 1966 Wagonaire show car. This attractive trim modification was for auto show display purposes and was not put into production. It likely would have been popular had it been. Here is a neat souvenir picture of Jim's Wagonaire from the March 2023 Run to the Sun Car Show in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Jim's Wagonaire first appeared on the page in April 2022 which was before he added the wood trim. Jim bought this Wagonaire in May of 2018, sold it in 2020 when he sold his house and lost his garage, and bought it again in April 2021 Jim's Wagonaire has the 259 cubic inch V8 rated at 180 horsepower with a three-speed manual transmission and overdrive. It also has a folding tailgate step, roof rack, backup lights, and the optional oil bath air cleaner.

The pictures above were posted to the Studebaker Station Wagon Owners and Fans group on Facebook. The group covers all years of Studebaker station wagons both stock and modified. It is a public group so anyone can visit the group and to view its contents. The group has over 2,500 members and hundreds of posts. The posts include numerous pictures, original print ads, video links, and other materials all related to Studebaker station wagons.

Thanks to Jim Fowler for providing the updated information on his neat Wagonaire.

STUDE TOY OF THE MONTH

M2 Machines 1951 2R Service Truck

This M2 Machines 1:64 scale 1951 Studebaker 2R Dealership Serice Truck is a recent addition to my collection. It comes packed in a window box mounted on a stand inside a clear plastic display case. The front fenders read "Radio Equipped" and the utilty box reads "Dealership Service" on the side. In addition, there is a 1950's style Studebaker red ball logo on the doors. As far as I am aware, this is only the second M2Machines C Cab release with a utility box. Both are 1951 2R trucks the first being the White Winston Enterprises Plumbing and Landscaping truck as shown in this picture.

M2 Machines has issued numerous versions of its Studebaker C Cab truck. These include tow trucks, plows, drag trucks, stake bed, flat bed, and with a utilty box. They range from 1949 2R models to 1954 3R models with appropriate changes to the grille and trim. Most versions are only available for a few months as M2 Machines is constantly updating its offerings. There have been a number of special issues for O'Reilly Auto Parts and Hobby Exclusives only available through the M2 Machines Hobby Dealer Network.

Several versions of the M2 Machines C Cab have been featured as Stude Toy of the Month on this page. These include a 1954 3R Tow Truck in April 2011, a 1951 2R Utility Box Truck in December 2012, a 1951 2R Stake Bed in April 2013, a 1954 3R Pickup in December 2013, and a 1949 2R U.S. Army Tow Truck in December 2017.
